MIRA Executive Director to retire

Bill Chandler, the Executive Director and a founding member of the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance, is preparing to retire. A lifelong activist, organizer, and tireless advocate for immigrant and worker rights, Bill, now 77, plans to transition out of full-time work. Though he will step down from day-to-day involvement, he will remain an ardent supporter of MIRA and the movement.

Accordingly, the MIRA board of directors has begun the search for a new Executive Director. Please send inquiries and resumes to b.chandler@yourmira.org. Important qualifications include that the person is bilingual in English and Spanish, and preferably that the person is from the Southeast and understands cultural and social dynamics in Mississippi.

MIRA is also hiring a Field Organizer

The Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance (MIRA!) organizes to expand the rights of all immigrant and migrant workers in Mississippi and make them welcome in our communities. MIRA works with labor organizations, other grassroots organizations and leaders in the Latino, Vietnamese, African American, and other communities of color. MIRA advocates for legislation and policy change at all levels of government in our state. MIRA seeks to aid those who are in danger and aggressively defends the rights of all immigrants who seek justice and dignity where they work and where they live. Our organization reaches out to both immigrants and non-immigrants to educate, organize and mobilize on issues related to immigrants.
